Today, Pinterest has released its annual trend report, ‘Pinterest Predicts, ’ which each year delves into all the top trends that will define the new year based on its app activity and internal analysis. Over the last six years, the annual report has been proven to be 88% accurate, and while 67% of trends were driven by Gen Z, these trends span various generations of consumers. For the first time, Pinterest is partnering with various brands and retailers to help its users shop its predictions by curating collections around these trends set to define the new year. Pinterest’s partners, Cult Beauty, Tommy Hilfiger, and Wolf & Badger, will invite pinners to shop these new collections all in one place.

This year, the report delves into 21 trends that Pinterest expects to bring major shifts in 2026, with Pinterest reporting that trends are growing 4.4x faster than they were 7 years ago. Under the surface of these 21 trends lie three bigger currents that explain why people are gravitating towards these patterns:

In 2026, Pinterest predicts the rise of nostalgia with comfort as consumers’ key support system, with 55% of global respondents prioritising it as a need in their daily lives. Everyday rituals have become safe havens for consumers using nostalgia to find a sense of comfort and belonging. Over the last few years, Pinterest has reported a rise in nostalgic trends that transport consumers back to childhood comforts, as consumers attempt to reconnect with simpler times, while still maintaining today’s modern edge. Here is a delve into the trends defining this key category:

Thank Millennials and Gen Z for everything gummy in 2026, from rubberised nail art to bouncy probiotic supplements. In 2026, all things rubber and bouncy will be your newfound tactile obsession, with Pinterest reporting a 50% spike in searches related to gummy bear aesthetic and a 130% rise in jelly blush searches.

Boomers and Millennials have spiked the rise in circus-inspired home decor that hits just the right balance, with spaces that feel elevated with a hint of camp, as searches for circus interior are up 130% and striped ceilings are up 40%.

Childhood also gets a nostalgic twist with the rise of vintage-inspired outfits and even children’s toys. Think 60s upcycled baby outfits and classic toys, with searches for 1970s childhood toys up 125% and vintage kids fashion up 35%.

Gone of the days of emails; it seems handwritten exchanges are the latest trend for 2026 as Gen Z and Millennials turn texts into written performance art with the rise of handwritten letters up 45% and cute stamps up 105%.

It seems cauliflower has been overtaken by the trendiest new veg of the new year; it’s crunch time, and cabbage is the new Kitchen favourite, with searches in cabbage dumplings up 110% and fermented cabbage up 35%.

Curating Over Copying

Consumers have shown that they are more drawn to trends that align with who they aspire to be, with 42% of respondents stating that they only participate in trends that suit them. Pinterest has discovered that in a shift from past trends, consumers in 2026 will consider trends not as cultural mandates but as opportunities for further self-expression and widening of identity. The following trends under this section are split into two sub-categories:

Identity Curation Trends:

2026 will highlight Afrohemian Decor with searches in bamboo beaded curtains up 60% and Ethiopian art up 50%. Think colourful Nigerian textiles and Ethiopian wall art alongside handwoven baskets and natural fibre rugs.

Glamoratti is back, with tailored suits and sculpted shoulder times three and chunkier, bolder and golder, jewellery driving this maximalist aesthetic with searches rising 65% in 80s luxury and 50% in gold cuff.

Poetcore is on the rise with Gen Z and millennials challenging their inner protagonist with cape outfit searches up 65% and poet core up 75%.

Fashion’s newest trend is inspired by explorers and all things khaki, bermuda shorts, vests with pockets times 50, and adventure-ready streetwear with palaeontologist aesthetic up 35%.

After years of heavy minimalism, Neo Deco is back with a modern twist, think chevrons, fan arches, and all things geometric as Pinterest found a 35% rise in the brass aesthetic and red marble bathroom, up 80%.

Personal Expression Trends:

Beauty is being remixed in the new year with abstract eyeliner, two-toned lipstick, and bright eyeshadow. Eccentric makeup is up by 100% in searches, and nails with different colours on each hand are up 125%.

In 2026, Boomer and Millennial men will accessorise their fits with vintage pins and heirloom brooches as brooches for men’s suits are up 90% and heirloom jewellery is up 45% in searches.

It’s all about the lace this 2026, with crochet phone cases, bomber jackets with lace trims, as the doily makes its debut. Gen Z and Millennials are driving this trend with lace doily up 105% and lace belt up 55%.

Gen Z and Millennials are ditching the one fragrance rule by blending oils and a mix of perfumes to craft their signature scent, with searches for perfume layering combinations up 125% and scent layering up 75%.

Millennials and Gen Z are embracing beauty that bites back with an after-dark aesthetic by embracing goth hairstyles, dark nails and a smudged smoky eye as searches for dark romantic makeup are up 160% and vampire beauty is up 90%.

Grounded Optimism

Most consumers can only see themselves so far into the future, with the majority of consumers not able to envision themselves beyond 24 months. People are seeking grounded optimism in the present with escapism as their emotional fuel. The trends under this category are the following:

Cool blue is the colour of the new year, think cool-toned coats, glacier-inspired accessories and the frostiest cocktails with glacier aesthetic up 35% and frosted makeup up 150%.

Gen Z and Boomers are leaning into a calmer style of animal aesthetic, with searches in deer aesthetic up 55% and flower outfit men up 105%.

This next trend is out of this world as Gen Z and Millennials go intergalactic with makeup that mirrors moon dust and cosmic silhouettes straight out of a sci-fi film, as alien-inspired makeup goes up 140% and opalescent is up 115%.

Millennials and Gen Z are taking us back to the theatre with dramatic drapery and red rose details as the next trend for user gatherings, as opera theatre is up 35% and masquerade decor is up 40%.

2026’s latest travel trend is fairytale meets fever dream as Scotland’s highlands aesthetic rises 465% and ethereal places are up 45%.

In the new year, Gen Z and Millennials are travelling for the thrill of it, seeking full-throttle adrenaline-inspired tourism and anything that is out of their comfort zone, as adventure tourism rises 75% as well river rafting up 35%.

Pinterest’s 2026 predictions reveal one truth behind all three currents: consumers aren’t looking to fit into aesthetics; they are using aesthetics to become more themselves, feel calmer in the chaos of the world, and reconnect with moments of joy and familiarity. For brand’s the report marks a powerful shift that the opportunity isn’t to push products but to support self-discovery. Pinterest Predicts 2026 shows us what consumers are becoming, and the brands that lean into these currents will create connections that endure.
