Grimace gatecrashes McDonald’s 50th birthday celebrations

After launching McDonald’s 50th Birthday celebration last month, McDonald’s UK and its agency partners have revealed a final surprise to end the party. Grimace, the beloved McDonald’s character, is crashing the party and he’s bringing the iconic Grimace Shake with him.

This limited-time menu item will be available at McDonald’s restaurants across the UK for just one week, from 28th August to 3rd September. It’s the first opportunity for UK customers to try the viral sensation, which combines blueberry-flavored syrup with a creamy milkshake base.

The original retro outdoor ads will now be covered in the delicious purple shake, and Grimace will be taking over the McDonald’s UK & Ireland Instagram page with his own stream of content, community management and a live tasting party featuring Grimace as DJ – complete with purple rave posters promoting the experience.

Marketing Director of McDonald’s, Matt Reischauer, said, “Grimace does what Grimace wants so of course he would gatecrash our 50th birthday celebration; it wouldn’t be a party without him. Seriously though, after so much fan demand, we are very excited to bring the delicious Grimace shake to the UK & Ireland.”

Andrew Long and James Millers, Executive Creative Directors at Leo Burnett UK, stated, “Every good party has a final surprise, and McDonald’s 50th Birthday includes a colossal one. The buzz of Grimace and the Grimace Shake is all over social, we couldn’t think of a better special guest to close out our celebrations!”
